We all want to eat food that tastes good AND is good for our bodies, right?
It’s common to think healthy food could NEVER taste exactly like a burger and fries from In-N-Out. While that thought is true in some sense, it is also very untrue. I strongly believe with the proper ingredients, seasonings, and texture combinations, you can create meals that you’ll LOVE and you won’t feel like you’re missing out!
You see, our palate is based on what we typically eat. If we eat high-fat, high-sugar foods all day long, we will want high-fat, high-sugar foods all day long.
I am not saying a healthy lifestyle means no more In-N-Out burgers for the rest of your life. I’m saying, once you get into the habit of eating foods that make you FEEL really good, you start craving and desiring the In-N-Out burger and fries less and less. Again, the cravings and desires are not eliminated, just less.
So how can you get into the habit of eating better and feeling better? You can start with a few simple kitchen swaps.
Simple Swaps YOU Can Make
You can still eat your favorite foods, just be smart and conscious of what you are putting into your body! Make healthy swaps where you can to get a taste of what you’re craving while also fueling your body with nutrients.
If you know cheese makes you extremely bloated, use less cheese in your recipes, or opt for a vegan cheese.
If you’re like me and you LOVE french fries, try buying frozen sweet potatoes and pop them in the air fryer until crunchy!
Make pancakes on Sunday morning using almond flour and coconut oil instead of all purpose flour and butter.
Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean eating a chicken salad every day and dreaming about burgers and fries. Make yourself a turkey burger and air fried potatoes for a meal that will leave you feeling full, satisfied, and light.
Get rid of the thought that you will be missing out on all the foods you love.
You can still have ketchup, just opt for one without added sugars like this one:
You can still have fries, just pop a bag of these frozen sweet potato cubes in your air fryer with some oil and seasonings:
You can still have fish sticks, just use almond flour as your breading:
You can still have bacon, just look for one that is uncured and nitrate free:
You can still have mayo, just buy one with avocado oil instead of canola or vegetable oil
You can still have dessert! Use cacao powder and honey for a sweet and chocolately combination:
Eat Better FEEL Better
I totally get the hesitation when it comes to trying new things. My best advice is to ask you, how does food make you FEEL? Are you constantly tired, bloated, and stressing about what to eat? Do you feel gross after eating your meals or do you feel light and energized? If so, I encourage you to make some changes.
When you stop to think about how food makes you feel, you can start to think about the areas you can make adjustments. If dinner is the meal that makes you feel the most MEH, start there!
What changes or swaps can you make around dinner? Maybe start with a sugar-free ketchup or switch from canola oil to avocado oil. You could even swap your large french fries for a small fry and a side salad. Maybe order a pizza with a side salad instead of your usual breadsticks.
Get creative with your swaps; they should match your needs and your lifestyle! I want you to FEEL BETTER and I honestly believe food is the way to do just that!
